Wavelet

Wavelet

Used for signal processing.

From Wikipedia:

A wavelet is a wave-like oscillation with an amplitude that begins at zero, increases or decreases, and then returns to zero one or more times.

Basically a snippet of a wave function that can be overlayed onto other signals to determine similarity or decomposition.

It is absolutely integrable: wavelet_691f83e9666aa9f2999bb23d7d60fecd0787ded5.svg

And square integrable: wavelet_fa0b1bc839dd19dbb5c751bdaf7f01aafd7abc0f.svg

So it only consist of a few oscillations.
